Process
Block printing is a simple slow process, which is centries old. A hand carved block is lined up by eye and pressed onto the fabric to make an impression. This technique is repeated over a length of fabric with precision and patience. The process of block printing is very human, slight irregularities occur while printing which provide an energy and life which spreads across the entire length fabric.
Louisa was formally trained as a painter at Wimbledon school of Art, through her painting she pursues harmony of line, form and composition; all elements that influenced her current range of fabric designs. Taking inspiration from the traditional craft of block printing, one of the oldest methods of printing. Louisa uses simple geometric form and shape, embracing the nuances and subtle variation the process of block printing offers. Her patterns are finished with flecks of colour painted by hand.
