Tidal Throw | Madder & Iron
Naturally dyed & Hand Block Printed onto Organic Cotton
Limited batch collection
I am so pleased that I can now finally share with you two throws that I have been working on closely with some master block printers (Chippas) in Rajasthan, India to produce. This new collection is a bit of a milestone for me, something I have been wanting to do for many years now….since I first made my first trip to Rajasthan when I was 26 infact. It is a joy to have worked with a family of such talented block printers in a place I am so fond of; in a craft I love.
I knew from the very start that it was really important to me that these throws should be printed using only natural dyes - using traditional colours used in Indian block printing. These throws are printed using Madder (Aal) & Iron (Syahi), Orange & Black; Natural dyes as I was once told by a block printer in India that ‘natural dyes continue to have a life’ I love this as a thought, a naturally dyed piece of fabric ageing beautifully through time.
My block design for these two peices is called Tidal; the name taken from a moment in Margate, UK. On a walk we came across thousands of sea purses washed to shore from sea.
When designing my work I like to create something that I would like to have in my own home. Something that is useful, delicate but strong and hopefully timeless. I hope this throw is practical, useful and beautiful to you in your home, and will last you a long time.
